The Ann Arbor City Council voted Monday to decriminalize entheogenic plants, such as magic mushrooms and other psychedelic plants. The passing of this resolution ensures that people in possession of these plants for either personal use or growth, would be the lowest priority for local law enforcement

On Sept. 17, council members in favor of decriminalizing the use of natural medicinal plants, which has been talked about for some time, spoke to 7 Action News about the move to green light the resolution.

“I strongly feel that decriminalization is the way of the future,” said Ann Arbor City Councilman Jeff Hayner.

Hayner and Councilwoman Anne Bannister said now is the time for the city to take another step forward in decriminalizing natural medicines, including magic mushrooms.

Now the city will no longer focus resources toward investigations, arrests and the prosecution of those found in possession of psychedelic drugs.

However, the resolution doesn’t give an OK to commercial sales or manufacturing of these plants, the resolution states.
